At this international event, Dardan delivered a presentation titled: “Hydrogen Enriched Ammonia Spark-Ignition Engine.”
This work investigated the performance, efficiency, and emissions characteristics of a hydrogen-enriched ammonia spark-ignition engine. The study examined the effects of hydrogen addition and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) on combustion behaviour, thermal efficiency, fuel consumption, and nitrogen oxide emissions.

Highlights:
Hydrogen addition enhanced combustion by increasing flame speed and chemical reactivity, resulting in shorter combustion duration and higher peak cylinder pressure.
Indicated thermal efficiency (ITE) improved across all hydrogen blending levels, reaching a maximum of 40% with 10% hydrogen addition at an excess air ratio of 1.2.
Hydrogen enrichment above 10% led to a reduction in thermal efficiency.
EGR was effective in reducing NO emissions for both neat ammonia and hydrogen-enriched ammonia operation, demonstrating its potential as an emissions control strategy.
